about
I think of this as a "short-shelf life" song although it seems to be lasting longer than I had intended and audiences are requesting the lyrics, etc. As a teenager, volunteering for the newly-opened recycling center near our small town in Michigan, I hoped that the environmental movement would be able to take down the Goliaths of big food, energy and chemical. Along with this, I lived in a family and church community that was active in civil rights and social justice issues. Sadly, I have watched we sapiens mostly fail on both fronts. Often, it is only nature's breath-taking beauty and human's odd-ball sense of humor that save me from total despair. Plus, you get to sing-a-long on this one when I do it live! Sorry, I know the "human" compensations grow smaller each day but nature's compensations become even more precious.
lyrics
Well, I've been thinking this a lot, with all he bad news that we've got,
the sun still shines in Chicago
Like how the earthquakes have increased and half the Beatles are deceased
the waves still wash upon the shore
we've got to find a sunny side just to survive this bumpy ride,
the sun still shines …
Like, if the bees should disappear, remember killer bees are here
the waves still wash …
and we always have the moon, we always have the moon
even if we say goodbye too soon we always have the moon
Though man-made climate change is here, we've got a lot more choice in beer
the sun still shines …
and Facebook may have screwed us all but look at this puppy with a ball!
Waves still wash …
and we always have the moon, we always have the moon
even if we say goodbye too soon we always have the moon
Now, if your friend 's a racist guy, that's one less birthday card to buy
the sun still shines …
and if Russians hack your phone, at least you'll never be alone
the waves still wash …
and we always have the moon, we always have the moon
even if we say goodbye too soon we always have the moon
Hummingbirds still hum a tune
lovers fall in love in June
the sunsets paint the sky, the great white heron fly
their shadows like dark ghosts upon the dune
now, there's a simple truth I know, its hard to let things go
the sun till shines …
But if we're forced to march again, that's healthy exercise my friend
the waves still wash ...
